First Two Days

As, you may know I landed my first internship the day after my birthday and I was so excited that while in my economics class it all i could think about as I picked lint off my black skirt. I was so nervous as I stepped out into the Florida sunshine in the Extension services parking lot. I was unsure if this was going to be an interview or if she would put me to work. I walked in the office with confidence and ask to speak to ____; the recipientionist quickly called _____. I waited patiently in chairs that reminded me of the doctor's office while my brain went though expectations. ____greeted me with a big smile while saying, "You must be Precious, I hope you have not been waiting long." I replied"No, just five minutes." We walked into a big conference room and she propped the door open. I brought the the questions to ask interns even though I already email them to her; I wanted her to know I was responsible and ready to become polished. The interview went well and she asked my to write a breif proposal on what
I would bring to the company. She said "You need to learn how to sell yourself even though i'm already sold." As we talked about my major and past experience I thought to myself this is a great opportunity to intern here. Besides, everyone being very friendly and ambitious, they are willing to groom me. ____ showed me around the office and explain throughly the purpose of of the extension office. I met many of coworkers who seemed glad to be introduced to a new face. I was at the office for atleast two hours and it was truly inspiring. I was staring into my future and I saw myself climbing the ladder fast. My next day in the office I would recieve my name tag but they are still working on those. My second day was more intense because ____and I worked on a task list. There are many projects I have to complete and I'm very anxious, but I'm not aware of the guidelines because the office works along with the University of Florida. Anything I complete must be approved by___. I will be responsible for media outlets which are Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube. The most excited thing was holding the Flip digital camera; I remember when I saw it being reviewed by Oprah. The Flip was so light-weight and the functions were so easy. just one button with a usb cable attached. I look forward to completing these task and I'm glad I contacted them and stayed persistent with contacting them.

My Birthday Gift

A premature baby girl born in Manhattan, New York was one pound and two ounces, twenty years ago. She went through two blood tranfusions, allergies to baby formulas, seizures, eye patches, and eczema. Through all of her ailments and sometimes limations, she has made it pass the twenty year mark with the same smile from when she was five years old. Her name is Precious Dorch-Robinson and she will continue to shine!

My 20th birthday was nothing fancy; I went to economics class and when I arrived home I started cranking out emails. By 9:45p.m. I shot an email to Buji magazine, an online magazine, I found on Ed2010.com. Even though I was a day late for the dateline, it was my birthday and you never know what could happen. It was probably a birthday wish because you know you're determined when look for internships when you're suppose to be celebrating. In my mind this was my celebration, gaining experience in my field; I needed to write and learn. I sent out maybe five to six emails to different media outlets that day and four days prior I was contacting an extension office for an internship. I was not sure if the extension office were serious about what my intern duties would be and the director seem swamped with work. So, I just envisioned getting it and I prayed. The other internships were newspapers that I was so sure there was a waiting for but nevertheless I tried. So, the day before my birthday I received I call from the extension office asking when was I available to come in and we made an agreement the day after my birthday June 22, 2011 would be an appropriate time. I was so excited; after all of the calling and e-mails I got what I deserved. I was immensely proud of myself and when I walked into class on the 22nd I was ready to intern even though it was 9:45am and I was waiting for 1:00p.m. Now that's what you call adrenaline! As for Buji Magazine they replied the same day I would intern for the extension office. Buji wanted to set up a phone interview but they wanted to call during my class so I told them my schedule. But they did not call on the 23rd of June. I was a little devastated but at least I have one internship. I will continue contacting Buji; they don’t have a phone number online email. I really wanted to know more about them because their positive attitude is definitely what I’m looking for in a magazine. I’ll keep updating the blog about the internship if I am not too busy with projects and homework.

Summer Secret

This past spring semester has been on the rocks for me since I moved to the dorms. Dorm life has so many restrictions and rules yet their safety of your health is non-existing. How to do you clean a kitchen of rusty items: Scrub until administration says it good. So besides battling rust and people's personalities, I was battling my classes and trying to continue campus activities. It was truly a challenge especially when you have severe eczema and allergies that conicide with stress and environmental agents. My eczema began to spread to my hands until writing was almost impossible especially typing with only four fingers for papers. But somehow I made it through one day at a time while whispering to myself that home would be the place I recuperate. So when April 30th rolled around I was packed and ready to leave. When I finally came home I slept all day, revamping in my dreams. I would wake up and just think of a strategy to move forward and to calm down my eczema and allergies. It took about two months of doctor's appointments, researching google, mediation, taking new and old supplements. It's still in a process but it looks and I feel a hundred times better. My mind is clearer on the goals and I'm working on becoming a better journalist. My mom used to make me watch "The Secret" and it wasn't as hard to analyze anymore. It was clear; my moment of clarity. I began to consistently contact the two organizations my mentor informed me about to inquire information on internships. With my persistence, I landed one. It's with an Extension Office that deals in Agriculture among their other ventures.
