AMERICAN BLACK FILM FESTIVAL COMES TO NEW YORK

The 18th annual American Black Film Festival had over 200 people lined up in New York’s Metropolitan Pavilion. BET Network’s presented “The Leading Man Panel” in support of President Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper Initiative. The male actors discussed their journey and the images of black men in Hollywood.

The film festival was packed for the second day with mostly women waiting to hear from the male panelists. The moderator Marc Lamont Hill introduced actors Omari Hardwick, Morris Chestnut and Stephen Bishop.

Morris Chestnut alongside Omari Hardwick discuss who they are and whose they are.

The panelists discussed the questions they face as African-American male actors in Hollywood. Bishop said as an actor the question is "Who are you as a man and what you're willing to do as a character." Hill said the types of roles the actors are faced with seem to be stereotypical to the black community. The actors agreed stating the movies that glorify gang culture are the ones that make the most money in Hollywood. Hardwick said the industry can bully you and that acting is a little submissive. "As I man I've seen it. Even though it's apart of the black experience you have to say no,"said Chestnut.

Hill dug deeper and explored the gap between the older actors and the actors who are up and coming. Bishop said in the African-American community we don't reach back and help others after we have made it. He quotes lyrics from Lil' Wayne's Tie My Hands, "But they talk that freedom at us and they don't even leave a ladder, damn.

The actors say they are looking for help from seasoned actors and sometimes that is the hardest thing to find. The veteran actors sometimes look at the up and coming actors and believe they are not doing enough to uplift the community. Hill said the older actors were more than just artists and they impacted the community. "We have a whole generation of elders who are becoming ancestors quickly. They weren't just celebrities they were freedom fighters," said Hill. The panelists were asked if there’s a correlation between an actor and a freedom fighter. "You can't be a great actor if you're not an activist," said Hardwick.

Stephen Bishop talks about using social media to voice opinions on injustices.

Bishop said he always speaks out for injustices or on racial issues. He said, “You can tell if you follow me on Twitter. I always say something.” The panelists agreed the legacy of seasoned actors must be recognized and not lost because they have broken boundaries. “We have to make sure the legacy they’ve earned for us doesn’t get lost,” said Bishop.

Let Go Of Your Inhibitions

People analyze their friends, it's natural. The world is made of relationships, just pure connection. Sometimes we settle with own connections until we mentally and physically become someone else. Everyone has the pit in their stomach, that instinct for change but we let fear make us settle. We seek change in  little ways and accept the new people that enter our lives. But was this person the change we craved:  No, we just accepted them because they accepted us. We need to accept ourselves, be true to our needs. Life is too short, too unpredictable to be complacent. I've realized the importance each day of doing what you feel, saying what you believe, and leaving people behind. Seek the people that make you want to live, search for passionate people. Search for people that are moving, breathing, living. Not people that let life pass because both of you will let your life pass by. Never live wondering, only live searching.  Live Your Legend by Scott Dinsmore website is inspiration for making new friends and changing your life.

Open Mind of Clarity

From feeling sorry for myself to fighting inner battles of eczema and wondering why I'm not where I should be, I've made it. Everything that I've dreamed about and that I've felt I deserved is finally here. No, that doesn't mean my journey to my destiny has ended; it has just began. I am honestly happy not even content. My aura is exactly where I want it to be; the stars are aligned is such a cliche but it's my time. It has been a long time since I've felt so sure of myself but I'm in love with myself, my mind, my presence. I am beautiful! I'm trying to keep myself in this state of mind and whenever I trip or stumble I must remember this moment. My moment for life! In order to stay in this light, I've realized I need a reminder. A physical reminder that this is not the end, to remind myself that this is just a pebble to throw behind me, to remind myself to not build a wall but to knock it down. Some people use faith in god as a reminder. I do belief in god but I find it hard to interpret the bible because everyones' interpretations are different. Words to each person have different meanings. Thoughts are what people are made of, we are belief systems. Beliefs influence action and when beliefs change so do actions. "The Secret"(inspirational book & movie) makes even more sense to me at this present moment. Thoughts are everything and they are the beginning of everything. I know I wrote in one of a previous post about finding myself. I was battling my new thoughts and my old thoughts which lead to confusion. I knew what I wanted and where I should be but I could not find the correct mind state. I over analyzed a situation into an abyss, pretty soon my situation didn't exist. I was blocking myself building a wall with little pebbles and looking at a new situation with an old pair of glasses. This is why you come to a new situation with an open mind. An open mind clears all assumptions, negativity, hypothesis or encountering old situations again. The brain is a computer which constantly produces answers based on past experiences and comparing them to new situations. And that's the faulty part about the complexity of the brain. Sometimes when the brain gives solutions using the comparative method it can ruin the chances of a blessing. Leave the baggage at the door even though baggage can be used as a protection against evils; it can also block the good. Everything you do must open the mind, learn in abundance and make mistakes plenty. And keep moving forward no matter what!

Self-Improvement Never Self-Doubt

Society is made of peoples rules and regulations; they are opnions basically. These rules and regulations can hinder your lifestyle or goal settings. Some people can go against the grain while others can not. But since society is based on order they dictate when people should make goals and change their lifestyle in a positive way. What holiday do we celebrate and make resolutions? It's New Years! This is probably the worst time to make goals and lifestyle changes because you are not making yourself the main priority; you're making a holiday the main priority. You're not going against the grain; you're running with the crowd. Many people get upset at the end of the year when they have not completed their resolution, it's because society never intended for you to complete it but they did intend on taking your money for the holiday.
There are times in your life when your goals are your main priority and you  do them effortlessly and you're having fun as you complete them. There is no pressure. This is because you just know you have to do it and your dedication is so strong that the obstacle is not a roadblock but a mere pebble. You pick the pebble up and you throw it behind you. Everyone has those moments, the high moments. Such as Nicki Minaj's "Moment For Life." The difference is celebrities understand how to continously have these moments. That's what makes them seem so glamourous, their goals. Everyone has the power to acheive, everyone believes but no one takes the action! The cliche "Actions speaks louder than words"will always be true especially in goal setting and self-improvement.
I'm reading Brian Kim's website and it is about self-improvement. Brian quotes: But somewhere along the line, your natural success mechanism was repressed. It was buried, Buried by negativity. Buried by experience. Buried by fear of failure and forgotten." This quote sums up everything in life or any restraints you may have put on yourself thinking that you were not good enough which means experience and false evidence appearing real (fear) is the greatest roadblock in life. If you let the outside elements destroy the gift inside of you then what do you have left.

Energy Muse

Lance Gross

Usher
I have been on I rampage for paid internships, journalism jobs and scholarships. Thank you Ed2010.com for aiding my thirst because I desperate need money especially since I buy groceries at school. So, as I scanned the Milkshake email for what types of articles they write; I noticed an Ad at the top of the page. It was appealing for me with the intricate, bright jewelry with small writing. "energy muse." I was looking for energy since I have been very fatigue since my eczema/allergies outbreak. I needed inspiration to continue pushing through with class and my internship. I quick energy muse solely based on curiosity and new jewelry. What an awakening of the mind as the web page opened up. Through watching The Secret, The Compass and reading people's aura , I believe in energy on the earth. Even though I'm not always certain where to find this energy besides on people who are unselfish and giving. Energy Muse is a jewelry company that sell jewelry that's 100-500 years old. Besides, being ancient each specific piece has an affirmation. The jewelry releases energy according to their intentions such as: wealth and success, love and romance, health and performance, balance and focus, new beginnings, passion and creativity and spirituality and faith. This crystals are holistic and they emit energy to the person who wears them and they are actually cheap. With the age of the crystals you would think the price would be higher. I am really interested in purchasing a piece of jewelry especially since it has a purpose attached to it. I like materialistic ideas but items with meaning are much more greater. So check out www.energymuse.com; if you happen to buy one and have an inspirational story write a comment. And write a testimonial on the site.
