Amazon, Amazon what did you do to Cole World!!

I blame Amazon for not being able to wait until the album drops because they mailed it three days after it's debut and it was cracked. I thought the album would be mailed the day the album debut. So, my mistake I probably didn't read it correctly. But, this was extremely unprofessional the way it was package; there was no bubble wrap, just a cd in a cardboard box. I was so upset about the crack that I didn't even bother opening it. The crack seriously ruined my Cole countdown and all the pubing for the album. Amazon was gracious enough to send me another copy in bubble wrap free of charge. So all my readers make sure Amazon sends all cds in bubblewrap.

Album Review: Cole World Has Finally Arrived

I know I said in my previous post that a true fan of Cole would wait until the album the album drops to listen but I couldn't help. I blame YouTube and their related and recommended videos. Cole World showed up as soon as I logged into YouTube. I shook my head as I clicked on the link. It blew my mind and I grinned; Cole World you did not disappoint me. The production is beautiful especially if it's blasting from the speakers. I could tell Cole has improved and I'm so proud of him. Production wise my favorite song is Rise and Shine. Lyrically, my favorite top songs starting at number seven: Cole World, Sideline Story, Nobody's Perfect, Breakdown, Daddy's Little Girl(actually not on the album), and Rise and Shine.

Punch Lines For Top Seven Songs

7.  Cole World

Punch Lines

I see my sh*t all in your sh*t, we call that imitation
And they say that's flattering, but I ain't flattered at all.

I got the type of shit that make a hater say sorry
B*tch, I made this in the crib, watchin' Belly
Eatin' peanut butter jelly, what the f*ck the niggas tell me
They say I'm takin' long, I tell em patience is a virtue
I'm goin' all out and b*tch I never had a curfew.

Rappers show me love, I wonder what it could be
I think they scared of me, and they should be

Review
The slow tempo intro and speeding up to the chorus really drives the song. It's sounds like it could be a song in a cypher but it's more low key. The song opens with J. Cole appreciating the love from fans and his success of finally completely the album by saying "I think it's gonna be a hell of a night, a hell of a night. So we could do whatever you like"Cole addresses his career as an artist and gaining his respect from other rappers. He talk about peers pressuring him to hurry up with the album. His reply to peers urgency is patience is a virtue. Cole also addresses rappers copying him and says he is not flattered at their imitation.

6. Sideline Story

Punch Lines

I put my heart and soul in this game, I'm feelin' drained
Unappreciated, unalleviated
Tired of comin' up short, f*ck abbreviate

Lookin' at rappers like "what the f*ck you got a deal for?! "
When I was assed out with my funds low
It's nice to know I had the whole world at my front door

And my lines is designed from the heart
Young Simba been a lion from the start

Review

Cole continues the basketball theme with "Sideline Story." Cole dicusses the complications of trying to make it off the bench and get into the game. He talks about the urgency of making it in the business and peoples doubting his goals. The song is mellow with pianos and drums. Cole has several stories in this record but the flow so well.

I will finish the album review soon but check out the video below!

The Troy Davis Letter

The Troy Davis Letter

Print
Troy DavisHere is the letter that Troy Davis penned to supporters:
I want to thank all of you for your efforts and dedication to Human Rights and Human Kindness, in the past year I have experienced such emotion, joy, sadness and never ending faith. It is because of all of you that I am alive today, as I look at my sister Martina I am marveled by the love she has for me and of course I worry about her and her health, but as she tells me she is the eldest and she will not back down from this fight to save my life and prove to the world that I am innocent of this terrible crime.
As I look at my mail from across the globe, from places I have never ever dreamed I would know about and people speaking languages and expressing cultures and religions I could only hope to one day see first hand. I am humbled by the emotion that fills my heart with overwhelming, overflowing Joy. I can’t even explain the insurgence of emotion I feel when I try to express the strength I draw from you all, it compounds my faith and it shows me yet again that this is not a case about the death penalty, this is not a case about Troy Davis, this is a case about Justice and the Human Spirit to see Justice prevail.

Justice For Troy Davis!

This is article from BET's website on the trial of Troy Davis. I did not have time to write my honest opinion on the evidence of the case as well as the court system for Davis' trial. But all I can say at the moment is that the justice system is flawed. And who knows who is the next in line. After reading this aritcle please sign the petition to help Troy Davis and show DA Larry Chisolm there is a another option besides killing a man. Link to petition: http://www.naacp.org/campaign/davis

Troy Davis and Supporters Fighting Until the End

With his Wednesday evening execution looming, Davis and his supporters still hope for a miracle.

By Naeesa Aziz

As preparations are being made for Troy Davis’s 7 p.m. execution Wednesday night, Davis, his defense team and his supporters have all vowed not to give up their push to set aside his death sentence.

Following the Georgia pardon and parole board's denial of clemency Tuesday, the NAACP and Amnesty International gathered on the steps of the Georgia State Capitol to rally in support of Davis and condemn the board’s decision. Both organizations asked supporters to keep pressure on District Attorney Larry Chisolm and ask that he stop the execution and they have planned additional protests and vigils ahead of the execution.

Amnesty International has dubbed Wednesday, Sept. 21 a “Day of Vigil,” and the organization is asking supporters to wear black arm bands in support of Davis and inform others about his plight. Similarly, the NAACP is calling on members to join them in solidarity, prayer and fasting on Wednesday, suggesting supporters gather with friends and family to talk about Davis’s life.

Davis’s lawyers plan to file another last minute appeal Wednesday morning, asking a judge to block the execution on the grounds that the ballistic testing that linked Davis to the shooting was flawed. Additionally, Davis has asked state prison officials and the pardons board if they would allow a polygraph test before the execution to prove his innocence. (Click on these links to sign Amnesty International and the NAACP's petitions to save Troy Davis.)

As it stands now, Davis is scheduled to be put to death by lethal injection on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m EST.

Davis has refused his last meal and plans to spend his final hours in the company of friends, family and supporters. The Associated Press reports that late Tuesday Davis was upbeat and prayerful.

The controversy surrounding Davis’s execution stems from his 1991 conviction of the murder of Georgia police officer Mark MacPhail. His conviction rested solely upon eyewitness testimony and all but two of the original non-police witnesses have recanted or contradicted their testimony implicating Davis as the shooter. Additionally, no murder weapon was ever found nor is there any DNA evidence or fingerprints linking Davis to the crime. Davis’s defense and advocates in support of Davis say that there exists too much doubt over whether Davis actually committed the crime.

J. Cole Album Leak -_-

While I was posting a Facebook status about J. Cole's album debut on September 27, my friend commented saying "Cole's album leaked -_-." I was upset that someone would leaked after a third year wait with mixtapes in between and tours worldwide, why would you leak it? The album is a week away, one week. People could not wait; we already waited three years. So, what is seven days going to do? True fans, I feel would wait because of the dedication Cole has put into this album. And this is exactly what I will do; I will wait to review the album because I respect his craft. I would be upset if I produce an album and before the date people are riding around listening to it and posting links to download the album. Cole's response to the album leak was featured in Vibe Magazine and he said:"I feel blessed. There’s been worse leaks than that so I understand it’s a part of the game, I always understood that. As long as people hear it together, it’s cool,” he said. “And I just know that the people who are going to buy it were going to buy it anyways. The people who weren’t probably weren’t, anyways. If anything, the leak will reach out to more people who might be like ‘ah man, let’s go get this.' So you know, it's kind of like promotion these days—if you got a good album. If you don't have a good album—they'll just trash you.”

I know some fans will still purchase the album so I can't say anything about that because you will still support Cole. So what do you guys think download or wait? Fake Fans or Excited Fans?

Love,
The 'Patient' Phoenix

4-H Ledge Program

Check out the link read it here: http://www.osceolawoman.com/index.php/component/content/article/226.html

By Precious Dorch-Robinson, UF/IFAS Osceola County Extension Summer Intern

4HOsceola County’s Extension Office located in Kissimmee, FL is passionate about helping the youth become role models through service, leadership, and communication skills. 4-H, the youth development program holds a fiveday event for ages 14-18 called the 4-H Legislature Program. This event allows the youth to be engaged with Florida government for five days in Tallahassee, FL. Each day they learn about local, state and national government by participating in hands on activities. They learn about mock legislature, laws and bills. 4-H Legislature allows them to network and gain leadership skills by understanding the different roles within government. They had the opportunity to learn the duties of Senators, Representatives, lobbyists, pages, reporters and Governors. Each morning they meet in the capitol to debate on bills, and then they attend at evening assembly. After the assembly, they engage outdoor recreation activities. The assembly is the awards banquet with a dinner. At the banquet, they win awards for their debates on governmental policies at the capitol. Recreation activities range from swimming to canoeing to exploring Tallahassee. They learn to enhance public speaking skills, presentation skills, interpersonal communication skills, confidence and bravery.

The mission of 4-H Ledge is to help youth gain an inside perspective to legislation and to encourage new knowledge by communicating effectively and working in groups.

Leah Santiago, 16 year-old from Osceola County, is the 4-H president of the Osceola County Council. This was Leah’s first time participating at 4-H Ledge but she has been in 4-H for five years. Hearing exciting stories from senior 4Hers influenced Leah to signup for 4-H Ledge. Leah said: “4-H Ledge is a fantastic opportunity to experience Florida government first hand. It’s a great way to meet new friends and interact with people all over the state.” She really enjoyed the debate in House and Senate; through her experience with Ledge she learned the importance of confidence, decision making and independence. With her previous knowledge about government and hands on activities in legislation, Leah is interested in learning more about bills being passed in government. She feels the youth can benefit from Ledge and plans on participating in Ledge again. Teens are able to appreciate government and understand the democratic process. While listening to debates it will increase their ability to respect and listen to others opinions. Teens can socialize with their peers and exchange ideas about government to enhance their knowledge. The various activities at Ledge aid teens in becoming leaders and increases civic engagement. The youth can participate in various roles at Ledge and they have specific duties. They can be Florida governors, senators, house representatives, legislatures, lobbyists or apart of the Media team. They all fill out a voterregistration form to determine the minority and majority parties. These two parties are called Green and Gold Parties and the leaderof each party informs the public of their platforms. Informing the public of their platforms allows the kids to engage in public speaking and it increases their critical thinking skills.

Besides debating on platforms, they debate on bills. While debating on bills they are negotiating and initiating quick decision making. The debate on bills is a great way to increase teambuilding skills and communication. The debates are influenced only by facts so views can be viewed thoroughly and fairly. As a governor, one can veto or pass bills, but this duty is only for the President of the 4-H Council. They learn how to draft and edit bills when being appointed the speaker of the house. Participants of the media team are only selected if they have prior 4-H legislator experience. As a reporter for the Media Team they must have some journalism experience and be familiar with word processing programs. They are responsible for writing objective articles and taking photos for the 4-H Legislature newspaper the “Legislative Times.” Also, they develop the PowerPoint presentation that is shown at the banquet. Strong research skills and background information is encouraged when participating in 4-H Ledge. They make decisions on which bills will impact their community and determine the consequences. They use sources outside of publications to obtain information about bills by meeting actual senators and representatives. The Osceola Extension office arranges these meetings so they will be prepared for their debate. When they speak with county officials it will prepare them for a formal setting and help initiate future business opportunities.

4-H legislature is a great opportunity for the youth of Osceola County to learn outside of the classroom and immerse them in real life government. The experience at Ledge will enhance young adult’s knowledge of government and give them a boost of self-esteem by learning to communicate effectively. Debating government issues will help them gain critical thinking skills while learning how to negotiate and persuade an audience. 4-H Ledge is learning by doing and this program truly enhances the lives of kids who participate. To find out more information on 4-H Ledge please visit the Osceola Extension website, http://osceola.ifas.ufl.edu/.

Video Premiere: J. Cole's 'Can't Get Enough'

I'm so excited J. Cole's second single "Can't Get Enough" has finally premiered. It has a laid back vibe and it is definitely radio friendly with Trey Songz on the hook. I love the Caribbean vocals and instruments in the music mixed r&b and rap. As far as the visuals, of course it's an island with beautiful women. I love that most of the girls in the video looked different from the usual. They were dark-skinned with short, long, natural hair. Maybe it was because of the video's location but it was very refreshing. As far as Trey Songz and J. Cole having chemistry and not looking awkward while standing next to each other, their chemistry was not awkward. They actually complimented each other; J. Cole looked like a rapper and Trey finally didn't look like a rapper-singer. The video looks like a lot of fun and very relaxing especially with the dancing and smiling. So, here's the video:

SIX MONTHS HAIR GROWTH CHALLENGE

My Six Month Hair Goal
(It looks like a 4 inch difference)

Last Time I Had My Hair Straighten 6/2/2010
Last Time  I Straighten My Hair 1/2010

      Hair Straighten
12/2011

For the past two weeks, I have had my hair in two strand twists. I am ready for the six month hair growth challenge. I want my hair to be bra strap length and I have noticed as my hair grows, it seems easier to manage. I might try box braids again but if I do I want to get the wet and wavy hair because it becomes wavy at the ends and it maintains shine. So wish me luck in the six month challenge because sometimes I can't stop playing with my curls! And I am use to them being out instead of in twists or braids. I will probably take a picture of my hair in a month, if I notice growth. I'm so excited it's my first challenge and probably need to get my ends trimmed. I hate trimming but we will see!
.
I could not  leave my twist in for six months; I became bored. I left them in from august to october 31st. The 31st was actually my friends showcase and I needed to show my twist outs. My twist outs lasted for two weeks. Then I retwisted my hair to take it out on thanksgiving. Then in December I kept my twistouts. I lasted three months. It was so hard! But I also had a year with no heat. I think I will straighten my hair once or twice a year. No heat, low manipulation with plenty of sun and good eating habits results to hair growth.

COUNTDOWN FOR COLE! 17 Days!

J. Cole, first signed artist to Roc Nation, album is debuting in seventeen days. So it is my pleasure to start the seventeen day countdown by posting my top seventeen songs from J. Cole. Songs will be from the Warm Up, Come Up, Friday Night Lights, Any Given Sunday, and songs that didn't make the mixtape. So the seventeenth song is "Dead Presidents" from "The Warm Up." Dead Presidents has the nineties old school vibe because Cole raps over Nas' Dead Presidents which just sends chills just while listening to it.

Favorite Lines

1. Uh, these n*ggas is playing Russian roulette with a full clip, foolish. My crew is fooless naw we don't dance all we do is stay two steps ahead.

2.It's dope, then you should know the suppliers name
It's J. Cole, set of horns and a halo.

3. Not if I had a ladder or not even if I had a rope
I'd climb that m*therf*cker to the top and never let it go!

4. Ahead of my time like I live my whole life backwards.

5. I'm pass these n*ggas, they trynna do it how these other n*ggas did it
I'm trynna live it how no other n*ggas ever lived it!

 Personal Explanation

1. Cole is referring to certain young guys in his neighborhood and he compares them to himself and his friends. He describes his friends are people that are sharp because they stay two steps ahead of every situation and he says they are not knuckleheads. He calls the guys in his neighbor foolish and relates their actions in life to the playing Russian roulette: foolish. Because while playing this game you're threatening your life and you will die but you are shortening your life every time you play the game.

2. He is just stating his name if you don't know it but I like how he describes both sides of himself by referencing a horn and a halo. The devil and an angel and this is so true because no one is one sided, we have our evil side and we have our good side, like a double sided coin.

3. This shows his dedication to whatever he is trying to achieve. No mater what obstacle he believes he will overcome it because he refuses to let go, no matter what. Besides not letting go he will reach the top so he will never stop climbing.

4. Great Metaphor! If you grow up ahead of your time you would be considered backwards. Let me explain, ahead of your time means you're at the forefront early but according to society you're not suppose to be ahead already. You're living backwards because you are at you're destination instead of starting your destination. So, you are backwards strictly because you are early.

5. Cole is beyond trying to do what everyone else has achieve so he is past their goals. He is thinking outside of the box and he is doing what no one has did, so he is making his own path instead of following other peoples' path.

One Saturday Morning!

As I scrolled through my email I noticed a reply to my message to Inspire Magazine 2011 Virtual Internship. This was my second attempt to get this internship; the first time was second semester last year.  The School of Journalism and Graphic Communications at Florida A&M sent me an email about the interest meeting for Inspire Magazine. When I arrived at the meeting and listened to the editor Lee Jones, I realized his goals were my goals. I became very excited and anxious because I could feel I was in the right place at the right time. After I introduced myself, he pointing out that spoke well and clearly. I thought that was a hint saying that I had potential. So, I walked out of the meeting with confidence that I would get a call back. I knew what with all my heart that I made it; I envisioned it. But a two weeks passed and no reply. Other students asked did I get the internship and replied "No I did not." I was a little of distraught because I had high hopes and I believed I made it. So a year later I thought why not try again and so what if they say no at least you made an attempt. This year I could not attend the meeting but I emailed Lee Jones stating that I needed an application. He emailed me the linked and I filled it out. Once I sent it back I didn't dwell on it; I said what is done is done.
On Saturday morning I checked my email for other internships and scholarships. The reply for Inspire Magazine 2011 Virtual Internship stuck out in my email box like a sore thumb. I clicked on it.

When I read it the first time I looked for the words saying I made it. It did not exactly you made it but it does say your intern acceptance letter is attached. I kept repeating "I made it; I made it!" It was a great feeling to know that interning this summer was rewarding and it opened doors to other opportunities. I was not sure if my clip would be good enough to send for the internship but it was good enough because it worked! So wish me luck; I'm so excited for this opportunity to become a great writer and to share with readers inspiring stories. I will definitely post my articles after they are published. To find more information about Inspire Magazine please click here www.inspiremag.org. Inspire Magazine is broader than a publication; they are here to serve the people, here to serve the readers.

FAMU NABJ Multimedia Short Course

At  FAMU NABJ Multimedia Short Course on September 8, journalist were enlightened to seize the moment and to continue learning new skills to stand out from the crowd. This was the first day for the participants of the short course who were eager to be apart of the three-day course this year. The presentation opened with Dean Hawkins speaking to the journalist reminding them to stay relevant within journalist because “There’s always room for another good person.” Senior Producer of CNN, Jill Cox-Cordova opening her presentation with the question: “Are you a multi-media journalist?” Jill’s question was actually the answer to staying relevant in journalism. As long as you have skills of a well-rounded journalist you will always be an asset to your company.
The tips that Jill gave during her presentation were simple but very critical when it comes to journalism.  What I thought was so vital in Jill’s speech is her acronym for YES, which stood for your brand, embrace a support system and skills.  I have never heard of this acronym and I feel it was the most important piece of the presentation. I learned that a solid support system is needed when you have questions, concerns or when you need to relax and get away from life’s stressors. Your brand is yourself because you are marketing your intergrity and knowledge. Knowing how to brand yourself and knowing your strengths is the main intity in the job market. Lastly, skills are something that no one can take away from you. Jill mentions that even if she may lose her job, she still has her skills to continue her journey.
Reinventing yourself and being well rounded another topic Jill spoke on when you are a multimedia journalist. You must be a multimedia platform journalist and a multimedia journalist.  A multimedia journalist is a journalist who is skilled in multimedia. This journalist can shoot, edit and produce their own video and write their own script. While a multimedia platform journalist can take one story and present it to all forms of media such as, online, TV,  radio, and print. As a journalist Jill explained that you must be a multimedia and multimedia platform journalist. When someone is talking about journalistic skills, you must be a go-to person for a specific topic but you must also know a little about everything. Be great in one subject and be good in the rest and learn how to do the things you don't know. I learned how to stay relevant in journalism through Jill’s tips. And I am looking forward to being a participant next year of  FAMU NABJ Multimedia Short Course.
